WARNING! Sewage sludge is toxic. Food should not be grown in "biosolids." Join the Food Rights Network.

Compost Joe's Premium Soils & Organics LLC operates, according to its website, "one of Wisconsin’s only organic recycling programs. Located 7 miles north of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, we produce quality organic compost from 100% recycled organics."[1]

Involvement with Sludge Proponents

Despite the notice on its website that "soil amendment products are used by some of the Midwest’s most prestigious organic growers," there is no mention of it being "certified organic." In fact, Compost Joe's belongs to the US Composting Council (USCC), a front group for dumping sewage sludge onto gardens and farms. The USCC promotes "compost" manufactured with sewage sludge.[2] As a promoter of "biosolids," the sludge industry PR term for sewage sludge dumped on farms and gardens, it works closely with BioCycle magazine, Water Environment Federation, Kellogg Garden Products, and other promoters of growing food in sewage sludge.

Compost Joe's also participated in the 2011 BioCycle 11th Annual Conference on "Renewable Energy from Organics Recycling." BioCycle Magazine is a publication serving the interests of the sewage sludge industry.[3]
