Biographical Information

"Derek Browne is an award winning entrepreneur and international speaker. An ex investment banker and international athlete, he is the founder of Entrepreneurs in Action, (EiA) a company which offers strategic consultancy and delivery of entrepreneurial training programmes across education and leading business.

"He has advised executives from Waitrose, Aon, Transport for London, Serco and Virgin Atlantic, The Olympic Delivery Authority, The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, Croydon and Tameside Councils on innovative talent engagement strategies and entrepreneurial programmes. He has also consulted and delivered programmes for the DFES and SSAT on 14-19 and enterprise strategies.

"In 2006 he was awarded The Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion and was a finalist of the 2006 Daily Telegraph Business Personality of the year awards. He has also appeared on TV, including CNN, BBC News and C4’s Jamie’s (Oliver) Chef where he acted as business mentor to the 4 finalists for the duration of the programme. He has also been interviewed by the Financial Times, Telegraph, Independent on Sunday and The Economist.

"He is regular contributor and speaker to National College of School Leadership and Windsor Leadership Trust. He has spoken about social mobility conferences at the invitation of Pembroke College, Oxford University and Herbert Smith. He has been a keynote speaker for SSAT National Enterprise conference. In April 2008 he was appointed as a Visiting Professor at London Metropolitan University Business School.

"Derek is also a Director of the Barbados Entrepreneurship Foundation, which is charity focused on making Barbados the number one entrepreneurial hub of the world by 2020. He has a background in investment banking working for The Securities and Investment Board (Now FSA), Barings Investment Bank as a trader and Foreign Exchange Dealer, and Merrill Lynch International Private Banking as an Ultra High-Net Worth Senior Private Banker. He was a partner in the largest team in Europe, in which capacity he advised many of the UK’s leading entrepreneurs on their financial and investment affairs." [1]
