"He is currently Chairman of Celtel International BV (part of the Zain Group) and on the Board of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation. He has an extensive background in international development and financial services, and has held roles including Chairman of Actis (formerly CDC Group plc), Chairman of Allied Zurich plc, and Chief Executive and Deputy Chairman of SG Warburg & Co.

"Lord Cairns has a longstanding involvement with the not-for-profit sector, having been Chairman of Voluntary Service Overseas, Chairman of Look Ahead Housing, and a trustee of The Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. During his career he has also served as Chairman of the Overseas Development Institute and Chairman of the Commonwealth Business Council." [1]
