Edouard Brunner

Edouard Brunner "holds a B.A in Law from the University of Geneva. After his studies, he entered the Swiss Diplomatic Service and was, among other things, Head of the Swiss Mission to the CSCE. From 1984 to 1989, he was Secretary of State. After that, he was Ambassador to the United States and was at the same time Special Representative of the Secretary General of the UN for the Middle East. He then was Ambassador to France and also Special Representative of the Secretary General of the UN for Abkazia. In 1997, he chaired the Commission of Studies on Strategic Issues, better known as the Brunner Commission. Since then, he has helped to create the Swiss Foundation for World Affairs (Washington, D.C.). He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of this institution, as well as Chairman of the Foundation Council of the Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (Geneva)." [1]
