Energy Bars

Energy Bars are a food that are sometimes called nutrition bars or nutritional bars. They are marketed as nutrition for athletes, but are increasingly also marketed to non-athletes as healthy snacks or meal replacements.

Market Outlook

A 2013 article cited market research by Mintel U.S. finding, "Sales of health and wellness bars leaped 32 percent last year to $583 million."[1]

A 2012 article in Candy Industry noted at showed a 16.3% increase in dollar sales for nutritional bars for the year ending January 22, 2012, compared to the previous year.[2] Additionally, the piece noted that "the fastest growing segment of the energy category is the everyday consumer who cares about healthy snacking." Companies are trying to provide for consumers who "mainly consume sports nutrition products in order to provide a quick meal replacement or simply a healthy snack," as Tim Quinn, v.p. of trade development of Mars Chocolate North America put it.[3]
