Dr Eva T. Thorne "is Myer and Walter Jaffe Assistant Professor of Politics at Brandeis University, where she teaches and conducts research on Latin American politics, political economy, U.S. politics, and comparative politics. She also runs the honors program for the politics department at Brandeis. Among her many interests are the politics of race and ethnicity, environmental politics, macroeconomics and the politics of multilateral development banks, global civil society and faith-based institutions. She has developed syllabus, organized, and delivered lectures for undergraduate students on issues relating to conflicts between state and nonstate actors over human rights, environmental policy, and indigenous people’s and women’s rights. She also developed a syllabus on political change in Latin America.

"Dr. Thorne has served as a consultant for the World Commission on Dams, Capetown, South Africa, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Ford Foundation-Mexico/Caribbean Central American Research Council. Her name appears on numerous publications and papers, including “Garifuna Idenitty and Land Rights,” NACLA Report on the Americas (Sept/Oct) 2004 and “Multilateral Development Banks and the Challenge of Reform,” Global Environmental Politics, August 2004. Dr. Thorne has a Ph.D. in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an BA in history from Harvard University. She is a member of several professional associations, including the American Political Science Association, the New England Council on Latin American Studies, and the Latin American Studies Association. She has served on the board of the Caribbean Central American Research Council, and is president of the nonprofit organization Close to Home. She has reading, writing and speaking knowledge of Portuguese and Spanish." [1]
