Family Health International

"Formed in 1971, Family Health International (FHI) is among the largest and most established nonprofit organizations active in international public health with a mission to improve lives worldwide through research, education, and services in family health.

"We manage research and field activities in more than 70 countries to meet the public health needs of some of the world's most vulnerable people." [1]

In 1991 "USAID selects FHI to manage its second global effort to prevent HIV infections— the AIDS Control and Prevention (AIDSCAP) Project—following FHI’s effective management of USAID’s AIDS Technical Support Project (AIDSTECH), 1987-1992." [2]

According to the Population Research Institute "FHI is one of USAID's oldest and most highly-funded population control NGOs." [3]

Structure

On its website FHI states that it has two operational entities - the Institute for Family Health and the Institute for HIV/AIDS -- which were established in 2002. "The institutes allow us to focus our expertise and programs in family and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support, and provide a solid infrastructure for growth," it states. "In addition," the website states, "FHI is affiliated with PharmaLinkFHI, Inc., a for-profit contract research organization that specializes in Internet-based management of clinical trials conducted at multiple study sites."
