Biographical Information

"As the Founder and CEO of Onex, Mr. Schwartz’s principles of value creation and entrepreneurial management suffuse all of Onex’ activities...Before establishing Onex in 1984, Gerald Schwartz was the co-founder and President of CanWest Capital. Prior to that he worked at a major Wall Street investment banking firm where he specialized in mergers and acquisitions. His previous experience also includes the practice of corporate law in Canada.

"Gerald Schwartz has been appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada and inducted into the Canadian Business Hall of Fame. He serves as a director of Indigo Books & Music Inc. He is also Vice Chairman of Mount Sinai Hospital; an Honorary Director of The Bank of Nova Scotia; Chairman, Board of Governors, Canadian Council for Israel and Jewish Advocacy; Member, Committee on University Resources of Harvard University Board of Overseers; and is a Director, Governor, or Trustee of a number of other organizations, including Junior Achievement of Central Ontario and The Simon Wiesenthal Center.

"Mr. Schwartz was awarded Honorary Doctor of Laws degrees by St. Francis Xavier University and Tel Aviv University. He holds an M.B.A. from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration and an L.L.B. and B. Comm. from the University of Manitoba. " [1]
