Global Partnerships "is dedicated to expanding opportunity for poor people and providing leadership in the fight against global poverty.
"Today half of the world’s population lives on less than $2 a day, and more than 1 billion people live on less than $1 a day. We believe that poverty is at the root of some of the world’s greatest challenges. And we believe that those living in poverty can lift themselves and their families from it, if they are given the chance to do so.
"Microfinance is a proven, market-based solution that helps poor people to help themselves. Access to microfinance has a profound effect in the lives of borrowers and their families. A loan as small as $100 can give someone living in poverty the boost they need to start or expand their own business, a key to a better life. As their enterprises grow, borrowers are better able to feed their families, send their children to school and access basic health care. Global Partnerships supports the expansion of microfinance by investing capital and management expertise in microfinance institutions (MFIs), which in turn make financial services available to poor people."
