Guillermo Kerber

"Guillermo Kerber (Uruguay) presently coordinates the work on Caring for Creation and Climate Justice at the World Council of Churches (WCC), in Geneva, Switzerland. Since joining the WCC in 2001 he has been a programme executive dealing with international affairs, supporting the work of churches and communities in various parts of the world as well as coordinating the WCC’s advocacy on environment and climate issues at various United Nations conferences and the UN Human Rights Council. Before moving to Geneva, in his home country he was Professor of Ethics at the National University (Universidad de la República) and Catholic University (1992 – 2000). and was the director of an ecumenical organization working on rural development, migration and human rights (Servicio Ecuménico para la Dignidad Humana - SEDHU) (1992 - 2000). He holds academic degrees in Philosophy and Theology (ITU/PUG Uruguay) and a doctorate on Sciences of Religion (UMESP, Brasil). His doctoral thesis is on the place of ecology in Latin American theology, O ecologico e a teologia latinoamericana Porto Alegre, Sulina 2006. Other recent publications include: Ecumenical advocacy and witness at Rio+20, in The Ecumenical Review, Volume 64, Number 3, October 2012; Justice climatique, in Sources, Fribourg, Janvier-Février 2011; Tesis sobre la Justicia climática and Ecología, nueva cosmología e implicaciones teológicas, in Voices, EATWOT, Volume XXXIV Nº 2011/1; Caring for Creation and Striving for Climate Justice: Implications for mission and spirituality, in International Review of Mission, Vol 99-2, November 2010. Besides being member of the Board of GCCA, he is also member of the board of the Swiss organization Oeku – Church and Environment ,president of the Board of the International Network for Human Rights and member of the international Committee of the World Forum on Theology and Liberation"[1]
