The Hands Across the Mideast Support Alliance (HAMSA) "is founded in the belief that Americans from across the spectrum must unite to demand guaranteed civil rights for all in the Mideast. Americans can leverage an abundance of liberty to hold Mideast leaders accountable and assist indigenous reformers. HAMSA is non-sectarian and appeals to all people of conscience. Inspired by the American civil rights movement, we are committed to non-violence.

The American Islamic Congress promotes interfaith tolerance and mobilizes American Muslims - as well as all Americans of conscience - to stand for individual rights across the Muslim world. HAMSA works to bridge activist efforts in America and the Middle East, partnering with indigenous civic groups like the Tharwa Project, a minority rights organization established in Damascus, and the Ibn Khaldun Center, a civil rights think-tank based in Cairo. "Jesse Sage is HAMSA’s program director. A leader in the modern-day anti-slavery movement, he launched the web portal iAbolish.org. Sage has appeared on NPR, the BBC, and Black Entertainment Television; been featured in the Arabic-language magazine Hi!; and is editor of the forthcoming anthology Enslaved: True Stories of Modern Day Slavery. Recognized as one of Fast Company Magazine’s “Fast 50” innovators, he has worked closely with the campus movement to stop the genocide in Sudan. Sage serves with Ammar Abdulhamid on the advisory board of the Committee to Protect Bloggers and is a director of the Human and Civil Rights Organizations of America." [1]
