Homer Electric Association

Homer Electric Associaionis a rural electrical cooperative founded in 1945 in Homer, Alaska. The cooperative has 20,153 member-owners and a 3,166 sq. mile service area. Current operations include the Nikiski Cogeneration Plant and the Bradley Lake Hydroelectric Project.[1]

In January 2009, The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA), Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA) and Homer Electric Association (HEA) approved terms for the sale of Healy Clean Coal Plant to GVEA for $50 million. HEA has agreed to purchase from GVEA half of the plant’s energy and capacity starting in 2014.[2]
