Biographical Information

" Mr. Calderon Berti is a former President of OPEC and is widely regarded as one of the founders of the modern day oil market. He has also held the position of President of Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA), the fifth largest oil company in the world, and served in a number of key posts in the Venezuelan government. Mr. Calderon Berti was previously responsible for establishing Venezuela's state energy policies and had an important role during the nationalisation of the oil industry in the 1970s, turning PDVSA into one of the most profitable national oil companies in the world.

"He currently works as a consultant on a wide-range of global energy issues and has served as a member of the Board of several European oil companies. While serving in the Venezuelan government, Mr. Calderon Berti's posts have included Minister of Energy and Mines (1979-1983) and Minister of Foreign Affairs (1992). Most recently, he served as Deputy of the Venezuelan Congress and President of the Energy and Mines Commission (1989-1993). Mr. Calderon Berti began his career in the oil industry as a geologist and holds a Master's Degree in Petroleum Engineering." [1]
