Ilan Lax

Alan (known as Ilan) Lax "is an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa, admitted to practice in 1985. He has a B. Proc from University of KwaZulu-Natal and has completed the course work component of a Masters degree in Environmental Law. His practice has been widely varied and focused on human rights law. He was appointed on 1 March 1996 to the South African Truth & Reconciliation Commission (TRC) as a member of the Human Rights Violations Committee (HRVC). In March 1998 he was appointed to the TRC’s Amnesty Committee (AC) and served in this capacity until the end of May 2000 when the committee was disbanded.

"Ilan is involved with and serves on the Board of Ezemvelo KwaZulu-Natal Wildlife, the Greater Saint Lucia Wetland Park Authority, as well as the boards of a wide range of NGOs and Community-based Organisations. His extra-mural interests include music, surfing, flyfishing, literature and the outdoors." [1]
