The International Centre for Ethnic Studies ICES "was established in 1982 on the initiative of Sri Lankan scholars, supported by the Ford Foundation and nurtured by international scholars.

"It functions as an international centre of excellence located in the global south to conduct research and develop policies and mechanisms to address issues of ethnicity, pluralism, and the prevention and management of conflict...

"ICES, - Colombo was directed by Dr Neelan Thiruchelvam from 1982 until his assassination in 1999, by Dr Radhika Coomaraswamy from 2000 till 2006 and by Dr Rama Mani from January 2007." [1]

Listed as a partner organization of the International Center for Transitional Justice.

Funding

"ICES receives funding from a range of bilateral and multilateral donors and Foundations including CIDA, IDRC, NORAD and Ford Foundation." [2]
