Since 2002 Irving Horowitz is a director of the Alexis de Tocqueville Institution (AdTI). Irving Horowitz is a replacement for Ruth Smith who was killed in a car accident on September 5, 2001.

Most likely this is Irving Louis Horowitz (*1929) of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey because

  • his address on the 990 form is in Princeton, New Jersey
  • On the AdTI site Irving Horowitz of Rugters (sic) is qouted as "Thank you for passing on word of my essay..." [1]

Writing in 2004 it was noted that "Horowitz is a Professor Emeritus of Hannah Arendt University at Rutgers, and the founder of the publishing company Transaction Books. One of many books he has written is The Idea of War and Peace in Contemporary Philosophy, which was honoured with a Rockefeller Prize in Scholarly Publishing in 1956." [2]

"Most recently, he was the recipient of the Harold D. Lasswell Medal for Policy (Policy Studies Organization/APSA, 1995 ); Lifetime Achievement Award (Inter-University Committee of Armed Forces & Society, 2000); Gerhart Niemeyer Award for Distinguished Contribution to Scholarship in the Liberal Arts (Intercollegiate Studies Institute, 2003); and this year, the International Academy of Humanism Award for Public Service and Science (Center for Inquiry, 2004)."
