Dr Jeff McCarthy, Senior Research Consultant, Centre for Development and Enterprise.

"Born and raised in KwaZulu-Natal, Dr Jeff McCarthy is a Consultant in Development Research and Strategy. He is based in Savannah, Mauritius; Provence, France; and Durban, South Africa. His Ph.D. was from the College of Social and Behavioural Sciences at the Ohio State University in 1979. He researched and lectured at numerous South African Universities, and was made Honorary Professor at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1989. He is author of over a hundred books, journal articles and research monographs on urban and regional development. His most recent co-authored book (Urban Reconstruction in the Developing World) won the Gerd Allers Prize of the International Society of City Planners (ISOCARP) for the best planning book reviewed internationally in its year (2005). He is a former Senior Manager: Urban Policy and Board Member at the Urban Foundation, Johannesburg, and was a founding Board Member of CDE. He currently consults mainly to the private sector and international development agencies on the economics of urban and regional development." [1]

Jeff McCarthy, was "formerly the leading urban marxist scholar in South Africa." A member of the SACP.
