Jennifer F. Klot "was appointed Senior Adviser at the Social Science Research Council in 2002 to develop and manage new Council initiatives on HIV/AIDS and on Gender and Security. Prior to the SSRC, Ms. Klot served as a Senior Adviser at the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) on Governance, Peace and Security where she directed the preparation of a global Independent Expert Assessment on women, peace and security lead by Elisabeth Rehn and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and co-authored Graça Machel’s definitive book on the impact of armed conflict on children. She also established from inception and managed UNIFEM’s Fund’s global initiative on gender responsive budgets. Between 1994-2000, Ms. Klot served as a policy advisor on peace and security at the United Nations Children's Fund and directed Graca Machel’s UN study on the Impact of Armed Conflict on Children. Ms. Klot joined the United Nations in 1993 as a consultant to UNIFEM in the area of human rights. Prior to this, she served as the Acting Executive Director for the Fund for Education in South Africa, and Regional Representative for the southern Africa office of Ashoka: Innovators for the Public. She is an editorial board member of Security Dialogue, an Advisory Committee member of the All Africa.com Global Health Initiative, Board Chair of the Alliance for Women's Equality, Board Member of Iris House for Women and HIV/AIDS, and Advisory Group Member of Humanity in Action."
