Biographical Information

Joan F. Lane as been a director of McClatchy Company "since March 1989. She is currently a special assistant to the board of trustees and to the president of Stanford University. She served on the board of directors of the James Irvine Foundation from 1990 to 2001 and the Brown Group, Inc. from 1985 to 1996. From 1984 to 1991, she was a trustee of the San Francisco Foundation. Mrs. Lane served as special assistant to the dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences of Stanford University from 1982 to 1992. She was a member of the board of trustees of Smith College from 1978 to 1985 and chairman of the board from 1982 to 1985." [1]

Before that she was a special assistant to two deans in the Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences. She is a director of McClatchy Newspapers in Sacramento and previously was a director of the Brown Group Inc. in St. Louis.
