Biographical Information

"John was social affairs editor of The Guardian from 2000 until May 2009. As a Guardian staff writer since 1973, John has worked as a reporter and editor across many sectors including business, politics and education.

"In addition to being given the Freedom of Information Award for a successful legal action in the European Court against official secrecy at the EU Council of Ministers, John was also recognised by the BMA as medical journalist of the year.

"Since 2009 John has worked as a freelance writer. His responsibilities have included representing the public as a lay member of the Department of Health's National Leadership Council and participation in Dame Fiona Caldicott's Information Governance Review."[1]
