Karen Mahlab "has played a key role in community engagement, with her founding of Pro Bono Australia in 1999. She has been fascinated, therefore, to watch the whole philanthropic/community/corporate movement evolve since then...

"Karen chairs the Macro Melbourne Initiative, a project of the Melbourne Community Foundation, which identifies merging issues and trends in Melbourne and how they will affect disadvantaged groups. The Initiative brings philanthropic and corporate groups to the table, to see how they may be able to invest in ways to ameliorate the effects of the trends on disadvantaged groups.

"As a board member also of the Melbourne Community Foundation, Karen Mahlab helps people to become philanthropic themselves...

"Karen Mahlab is also the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) 80th Birthday Patron and sits as a Trustee on their Foundation." [1]
