Krishna R. Urs

"A 17-year veteran of the Foreign Service, Krishna R. Urs currently serves the Director of the Office of Economic Policy and Summit Coordination in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs at the Department of State. Previously, Mr. Urs served as the Acting Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy in Santo Domingo from October 2002 to July 2003. From August 2000- September 2002, Mr. Urs served as Counselor for Economic and Political Affairs in Santo Domingo. He served as Economic Counselor at the American Embassy in Lima, Peru from 1997-2000. He was deputy in Embassy Lima’s Economic Section during 1996-97. From 1994-1996, Mr. Urs was the Department of State’s senior Pakistan Desk Officer, handling political affairs. During 1993-1994, Mr. Urs served on detail at Department of Treasury, working in the office of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs. Mr. Urs also served as an Economic Officer in Nicaragua (1990-1993), Bangladesh (1988-1990) and Mexico (1987-1988).

"Mr. Urs is a 1980 graduate of Georgetown University, where he studied Latin American politics and economics at the School of Foreign Service. He earned a Masters Degree at the University of Texas in economics (1985). He has completed all coursework and preliminary examinations required for a Ph.D. in economics at the University of Wisconsin. His foreign languages are Spanish and Hindi.

"He is married to Denise A. Urs, also a Foreign Service Officer, and they have two children." [1]
