In an interview with Leslie DeeAnn Mower undertaken in 2004: "At 56, with six children and 18 grandchildren, it would be fair to say that Utah-born Dee has had her hands full raising her family, let alone co-owning and founding the company, which cancer expert Dr Samuel Epstein describes as "the only company that I am aware of that is manufacturing products that are free of cancer-causing agents."...

"As US chairman of the Cancer Prevention Coalition, Dr Samuel Epstein has long been trying to get a similar message across on both sides of the Atlantic. He is supportive of Dee and says, "Dee Mower has a well-deserved international reputation for the quality of her cosmetics and for her long-standing emphasis on product safety." We agree and that is why ICON salutes her. We applaud her hard work over the past 17 years to try to make life safer and healthier for us all." [1]

A report published two years later notes: "During sentencing hearings Wednesday, Thomas E. Mower Sr. and his former wife, Leslie DeeAnn Mower, were sentenced to just under three years and just over two years respectively for cheating the Internal Revenue Service out of more than $1 million in taxes by failing to report the cashing of an estimated $3.2 million in overseas commission checks." [2]

"Days before they begin serving prison terms for tax evasion, Thomas and Leslie Mower have sold Neways International to the San Francisco-based owner of Herbalife.

"Golden Gate Capital did not disclose the financial details behind its acquisition of Springville-based Neways. But the private equity firm paid $685 million for Herbalife in 2002.

"The Mowers said in a statement that selling the dietary supplement and personal care company they founded in 1992 was "one of the hardest decisions of our lives."" [3]
