The Rabinowitz Foundation was founded in 1944 by Louis M. Rabinowitz and later managed by Victor Rabinowitz. [1]

When Louis died in 1957, Victor, Lucille and Marcia became trustee and decided that "a sharp turn in the direction of the foundation was needed." Victor goes on to notes that: "We created an advisory board, which included some of the leading left-wing intellectuals in the New York area. Among those on the board at one time or another were Hugh Wilson, Carl Marzoni, Angus Cameron, Russ Nixon, Harry Magdoff, John Simon, David Haber, Carey McWilliams, Margaret Burnett, Ann Lane, and John Williams".
