Mark Read, deputy chairperson of the WWF South Africa Board, has tirelessly committed himself to support the organisation’s vision, mission and goals. "Mr Read’s association with WWF South Africa began in 1995 as a trustee, followed by his election to the Board in 1999 and subsequent appointment as chairperson in 2004, stepping down in 2011. He also served on the WWF International Board between 2004 and 2010.

"Throughout his illustrious career, which began with a Bachelor of Science (Zoology and Archology) from the University of Cape Town, he has made significant personal philanthropic contributions to WWF’s work and has built up a network of exceptional South Africans. He has played an important role in helping to assemble a board that now represents the diversity of people in South Africa.

"He has previously held positions at Christie's Fine Art Auctioneers, London and was a founding trustee of The Rhino and Elephant Foundation, a co-founder of the Paleontological Science Trust and a founding partner of the Great Plains Conservation Tourism Company.
