Mark L. Schneider "joined the International Crisis Group in spring 2001 as Senior Vice President and Special Adviser on Latin America. He directs the Washington advocacy office, conveying Crisis Group analyses and recommendations to the White House, the State Department, the Department of Defense, and Congress, as well as the World Bank and other international organisations. He also serves as special adviser on Latin America and on HIV/AIDS and security. Prior to his work at the International Crisis Group, he was Director of the Peace Corps from 1999-2001 and the Assistant Administrator for Latin America and the Caribbean at USAID from 1993-1999. He has also served as Chief of the Office of Analysis and Strategic Planning at the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (1981-1993) and the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Human Rights (1977-1979)."
