Michael Deaver

Michael Deaver (b. 1938; d. 2007) was an adviser to Ronald Reagan for over twenty years and worked as his deputy chief of staff in the White House. [1]

In 1975 Deaver co-founded a public relations firm, Deaver and Hannaford, Inc.. After having worked on Reagan's 1980 Presidential campaign, he worked as assistant to the president and deputy chief of staff between January 1981 until May 1985. After leaving the White House he established Michael K. Deaver, Inc., a Washington-D.C. PR firm. [2]

Working for Edelman

For fifteen years up until his death in August 2007, Deaver was the Washington chairman of the Edelman public relations firm. [3]

One the company's website he was listed as a "Public Affairs" specialist at Edelman where he is a "Vice Chairman, International". [4] It also stated that while at Edelman he "counseled clients including Wal-Mart, AT&T, API, Boeing, and the governments of India, Chile and Portugal." [5]

A biographical note for the Leading Authorities speakers bureau stated that "as Director of Corporate Affairs in the Washington Office, Deaver provides strategic counsel to many of Edelman's most prestigious corporate accounts including Nike, CSX, Nissan, and Microsoft. On the International front, Deaver oversees U.S.-based image programs for the governments of Portugal, India, and Chile." [6]

"Deaver serves clients in other key sectors. In health care, he acts as public relations advisor to the Healthcare Leadership Council, the managed care Industry's Washington-based lobby and advocacy group, and Cardinal Health, Inc., one of the nation's largest distributors of drug and health products. In technology and telecommunications, he has represented the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association, AT&T, and the Competitive Long-Distance Coalition," it stated. [7]
