Monounsaturated Fat refers to fatty acids with one double bond in their chemical structure.

Types of Monounsaturated Fats

Monounsaturated fats differ in the number of carbons in their chemical structures. A monounsaturated fat with 18 carbons and one double bond is notated as "18:1." Also important is the placement of the double bond. An omega-9 fatty acid is notated as "n-9."
