Neyveli Thermal Power Station
There are two lignite fired thermal power stations owned and operated by the Neyveli Lignite Corporation near the town of Neyveli in Cuddalore district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
The map below shows the location of the project.
They are the:
- Neyveli Thermal Power Station I, a 600 megawatt power station which comprises six 50MW units and three 100MW units. This was commissioned between 1962 and 1970; and
- Neyveli Thermal Power Station II, a 1470 MW megawatt power station which comprises 7 units of 210MW each. These units were commissioned in two stages of 630MW and 840MW. The first 210MW unit was commissioned in March 1986 and the last unit in June 1993. Further expansions of the power station are currently being completed. Neyveli Thermal Power Station II is located approximately 7 kilometres to the south-west of the Neyveli Thermal Power Station I.
As the two power stations are separated by a significant distance and are of different vintage there is an article on each specific power station.
