Nico Roozen

"When Nico Roozen introduced the fair trade label Max Havelaar from Solidaridad in 1988, the question was not so much, whether the rich Western consumers were prepared to pay an honest price for their coffee, but much more whether retail was interested in the concept. By now, the market has grown to over two million-dollar revenue in more than fifty countries. But most importantly, thousands of poor farmers were taken out of the dependent situation they were in. GET Foundation and Solidaridad work together in projects, and are exploring possibilities for getting more farmers a fair chance." [1]
