Biographical Information

"In the late 1990s Nora Kreher conceived the idea of The Bateleurs – Flying for the Environment in Africa, based on a similar organisation of volunteer pilots in the United States, called LightHawk. The Bateleurs was formally inaugurated on 08 September 1998 and Nora Kreher filled the position of Chairperson for the following ten years.

"Nora played a key role in the successful fight to save the Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park from mining, was a well-known environmentalist and was also a patron and trustee of several South African conservation organisations. Since her death in October 2008 The Bateleurs Board of Directors has collectively assumed her executive functions.

"While we at The Bateleurs feel that the world of conservation and human society in general has lost a remarkable woman, Nora's spirit will continue to inspire us and we intend to honour her memory by ensuring that The Bateleurs thrives and has a positive impact on the environment and conservation, in South Africa and beyond."
