Paul L. Joffe

Paul Joffe "is the Senior Director, International Affairs of the National Wildlife Federation, having joined NWF in August, 1999. Previously, Mr. Joffe was a partner in the law firm of Wiley, Rein & Fielding (1997-1999). He was the Acting General Counsel, U.S. Department of Commerce in 1997, having served earlier as the Deputy General Counsel (1996-1997) and as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Import Administration (1994-1996). Mr. Joffe was the General Counsel to Senator John D. Rockefeller IV of West Virginia (1988-1993), and he was Counsel, Subcommittee on Commerce, Consumer Protection and Competitiveness, House Committee on Energy and Commerce (1982-1987). In 1982, he was a lecturer, adjunct faculty, Washington College of Law, American University. He was an associate at the Washington, D.C. law firm of Hogan & Hartson (1976-1982). Mr. Joffe's military service was in the U.S. Navy JAG Corps (1972-1975), and he received the Navy Achievement Medal. In the summer of 1968, he worked on the Model Cities Program in Newark, New Jersey; and during the summer of 1967, he was a VISTA volunteer in West Virginia.

"Mr. Joffe was born on April 15, 1947, in New York City, New York. He is a resident of Washington, D.C. Mr. Joffe attended Harvard College (1965-1969, A.B., magna cum laude, in government). He attended Yale Law School (1969-1972, J.D.) and was chairman of the Yale Legislative Services (1971-1972).

"Mr. Joffe was admitted to the Connecticut Bar in 1972 and the District of Columbia Bar in 1974. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the American, Federal, and Connecticut Bar Associations, and the Washington Council of Lawyers, as well as the American Society of International Law and the American Political Science Association.

"In his work as director of NWF's International Affairs Office, Mr. Joffe has responsibility for overall management of NWF's international programs, including strategic planning and implementation. This includes providing leadership for NWF's participation and advocacy at major international conferences and forums, advocacy on U.S. national policy relating to global issues, and public outreach efforts. Mr. Joffe participates as a member of NWF's Senior Leadership Team and represents NWF on the Board of Directors of the Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies (Ceres). NWF's international team works on major threats and challenges relating to the earth's environment such as climate change, population, and globalization." [1]
