REGUA (Reserva Ecológica de Guapiaçu) "protects one of the last stands of tropical rainforest left in the severely depleted Atlantic Rainforest, or Mata Atlântica, in Brazil." [1]

"REGUA was formally established as an Association under Brazilian law in 2001, and is registered in Cachoeiras de Macacu.

"The Association comprises of its members, a Board of Directors and a Board of Councillors, all of whom are residents of the local Guapiaçu community. The Board is made up of Nicholas Locke as its elected President, Raquel Locke as the Vice-President and Fabio Soares Lagoas as the Treasurer. The Board of Councillors include Elco Monteiro Leal, Elton Joni Da Silva Nogueira and Marlene Nogueira da Cunha. REGUA has eight landowners that are full voting members and 24 community members.

"REGUA generates some income in Brazil through the Bird Lodge and day visitors, but its operating costs are mostly covered by generous donations from the Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest Trust (BART), and the tree-planting is funded by the World Land Trust (WLT), both UK registered charities. Land purchases have been funded through BART and the WLT with help from a number of individual donors, but all the land is legally owned and managed by the REGUA Association." [2]
