Roscoe S. Suddarth
Roscoe S. Suddarth "was the President of the Middle East Insitute. His early diplomatic career included service in Mali, Lebanon, Yemen, and Libya. He later served as Executive Assistant to the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, and Deputy Chief of Mission, American Embassy, Saudi Arabia. From 1985 to 1987 Ambassador Suddarth was Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs: from 1987 to 1990 he was Ambassador to Jordan; from 1991-94 he was Deputy Inspector General of the Department of State; and from 1993-94 he was the International Affairs Advisor and Professor at the Naval War Collee in Newport, RI. He retired from Foreign Service in June 1995 with the rank of Career Minister at which time he assumed the presidency of the Middle East Institute.
"Hon. Suddarth holds degrees from Yale, Oxford, and MIT. In addition, he attended the Foreign Service Arabic and Area Studies Program at the US Embassy in Beirut from 1963-1965."
