"This week, [in 2001] the Jewish Agency and World Zionist Organization inaugurated a Hall at Jerusalem's International Convention Center (Binyanei Ha'uma) in memory of Uri Gordon (z"l), former President of the Zionist Council in Israel and head of the Jewish Agency Aliyah and Absorption Department. The ceremony was attended by Chairman of the Jewish Agency and Zionist Organization Executive Sallai Meridor, World Chairman of JNF-KKL Yehiel Leket, members of the Jewish Agency Executive, public figures and members of the Gordon family. Jewish Agency Treasurer Chaim Chesler, formerly Gordon's aide, initiated the inauguration.

"The inauguration was held as part of a day of study for senior Jewish Agency and Zionist Organization staff, entitled: "Can the State of Israel exist without Zionism?" The day was held in preparation for the 34th Zionist Congress due to take place in June, during which subjects such as: the validity of Zionism, world Jewry as a strategic asset, Zionism and Israeli society, Jewish-Zionist identity and Israeli identity, will be discussed. Those present were addressed by Chairman of the Jewish Agency and Zionist Organization Executive Sallai Meridor, Head of the National Security Council Maj. Gen. Uzi Dayan, Prof. Arnon Sofer of Haifa University, Prof. Shalom Rosenberg of the Hebrew University, and members of the Jewish Agency Executive and Zionist Executive Arieh Azoulay, Amos Hermon, Rabbi Asher Hirsch, Eli Eyal, Haim Hayet, Avram Duvdevani and others."
