Professor Shmuel Noah Eisenstadt "received a Ph.D in Jerusalem in 1947. He is Professor Emeritus of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, a member of many academies, and recipient of honorary doctoral degrees from the universities of Tel Aviv, Helsinki, Harvard, Duke and Hebrew Union College. Professor Eisenstadt is the recipient of the International Balzan Prize, McIver Award of the American Sociological Association, Israel Prize, Rothschild Prize in Social Sciences, Max Planck Research Award, Amalfi Prize for Sociology and Social Sciences, EMET Prize for Sociology and Holberg International Memorial Prize for outstanding scholarly work in the academic field of social science.
