Biographical Information

"Sönmez Köksal is a member of the High Advisory Board at the Global Political Trends Center. He took various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1963-1968. He was the Secretary at the Turkish Permanent Delegation to the United Nations Office in Geneva between 1968-1972. Afterwards, he became the Director of section at the International Economic Institutions Department between 1972-1974. Between 1974-1976 he was the General Consul in Burgas, Bulgaria. He became the Consellor at the Turkish Embassy in France in 1976, until 1978. He has been the Director of the Policy Planning Department since 1978 and he has also been the Director of the Middle East and Africa Department. He was the Deputy Permanent Delegate to the EEC between 1980-1983. He was the Deputy Director general in charge of Multilateral Economic Relations between 1983-1986. In 1986 he was the Ambassador in Iraq, Baghdad until 1989. He was the Undersecretary of State in charge of Turkish Intelligence Organization between 1992 -1998. He was the Ambassador in France during the years 1998-2002. He was the President of the Board of Trustees of Istanbul Commerce University between 2002-2006. He was the Professor at the Işık University between 2002-2006." [1]
