"Recent events" have brought forth a plethoria of media coverage on illegal immigration. Hmmmm .. "spin of the month"??? AI 5/23/03 16:30 (EST)

Spin of the month? Nope! There are some very real and serious issues driving this dialogue AI. One of them is that Mexico is exporting it's population problem.

On checking the AP story http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/06/28/D8IH0FE80.html if this retraction is right and the reports were a paraphrasing and not a direct quote I can't see the point of the section remaining. I'll return on this point in a little while. --Bob Burton 00:38, 23 October 2006 (EDT)

Forced Labor Camps

Don Goldwater [1][2], the nephew of late Senator Barry Goldwater and a Republican gubernatorial candidate in Arizona, called for the "creation of a forced labor camp for illegal immigrants," which "drew rebukes" from Arizona Republicans Senator John McCain and Representatives Jim Kolbe and Jeff Flake [3], who "favor a guest-worker program for illegal immigrants" and "called Goldwater's comments 'deeply offensive' and asked state Republicans to reject his candidacy in the Sept. 12 [2006] primary," the Associated Press's Jennifer Talhelm reported June 23, 2006.

"EFE, a national news agency of Spain, quoted [Goldwater] as saying he wanted to hold undocumented immigrants in camps to use them 'as labor in the construction of a wall and to clean the areas of the Arizona desert that they're polluting'," Talhelm wrote.

Edit notes

I deleted the following lead - in my opinion it was overly polemical. While immigration can be exploited politically it is going too far to imply that any discussion of immigration issues can only an attempt to divert attention from Bush etc. --Bob Burton 23:45, 20 December 2006 (EST)

is another political issue designed and carried out explicitly to distract and divide the United States -- citizens and non-citizens alike -- so that "the people" will not rise up together against the criminals running the country.
