an advocate, social activist and entrepreur with 15 years multisector (government, private sector,donor agencies and civil society) professional experience in the areas of employment law, organisation development and change management, alternative dispute resolution, strategy development, policy formulation, project and programme management and process facilitation.
She has supported a variety of multisectoral development initiatives and has substantive experience within the HIV/AIDS, Gender and Development, Education, Social Justice and Human Rights, Peace and Economic Development sectors in Africa. She is the Co Founder of the Indiba-Africa Group, a human rights, management and strategy consultancy, the Executive Director of Indiba-Africa Development Alliance, and founder of ODM Consult, a development practice that provides a suite of development services in the Organisation and People effectiveness field. She is an arbitrator and mediator with the South African Local Government Bargaining Council (SALGBC) and the Motor Industry Bargaining Council and is actively involved in a variety of professional associations. She has held formal positions with ACCORD, Olive OD&T, Business Against Crime (BAC SA) and Agenda Feminist Media. Between 2000 – 2004 she was seconded from BAC SA to the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development to lead the Court Management restructuring process within the lower courts. The success of the pilot iniative in Durban resulted in the institutionalisation of a professional court management approach, the appointment of court managers throughout South Africa and the separation of judicial and administrative functions within the courts. She served on the Presidents Working Group on Women (PWGW) between 2005 – 2007, and continues to provide advisory support to a number of public and civil society Boards.
Michelle holds BA LLB degrees from the erstwhile University of Natal. She lives in Durban with Anil Naidoo and their daughter Antara.
