Arnold as a 'journalist' -- will return to add conetxt to this claim --Bob Burton 00:27, 9 Jun 2004 (EDT)

Relocating off topic quote from article page --Bob Burton 17:18, 23 Feb 2006 (EST)

"These temple-destroyers, devotees of ravaging commercialism, seem to have a perfect contempt for Nature, and instead of lifting their eyes to the God of the mountains, lift them to the Almighty Dollar." - John Muir

When David Helvarg interviewed Arnold and asked him about his frequent comments suggesting violence Arnold replied

"When I say we have to pick up a sword and shield and kill the bastards, I mean politically, not physically," "'I'll tell you one thing, though, there are people out there today who are ready to pick up guns and form their own armies. I've told them look, we already fought one civil war and lost, this isn't the way to go,' he is trying to reassure me minutes into our initial phone conversation".

Of course whether he really means only politically or whether this was simply a momentary expedient answer when put on the spot is the question. But his response brings up another interesting question, "we already fought one civil war and lost". Lost? Only if one is taking the side of the racist confederate south. Hmmm...

SW: Arnold claims he coined 'ecoterrorism' in 1982 and gives his phone no.

In a comment to an article in The Indypendent "The Birth of a Buzz-Word: Eco-Terrorism" Ron Arnold says:

I coined the term “ecoterrorism” in a 1982 Reason magazine article. Denson borrowed it late in the game after many other uses. I want the credit and you want to get it right. When you write about me, call me at 425-454-9470. It’s a common journalistic courtesy, I answer most questions, and I don’t bite. My 1997 book “EcoTerror: The Violent Agenda to Save Nature” was voted into the Random House Reader Survey of the 100 Most Important Books of the 20th Century. I left this message at your website contact email. Please let your readers know about the REAL birth of the buzzword. I’ll tell you the whole story if you’re interested. Ron Arnold (End quote)
