The United Nations Children's Fund, commonly known as UNICEF, "works for children's rights, their survival, development and protection." It is guided by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child established in 1989. On 1 May 2010, Anthony Lake became the sixth Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund.
