Victor Bjorgan was born on 1st November 1955 in Montevideo, Uruguay. Journalist by vocation, his first contact with journalism was in 1982, when serving as Publisher & Editor of the weekly newspaper SOMOS IDEA, in clear confrontation to the then military dictatorship in Uruguay. He exiled in 1983 in Norway, leading the newspaper from exile until it was closed by the regime of then dictator General Gregorio Alvarez. With the advent of democracy in Uruguay, Bjørgan returns to his country in November 1984. He is the founder of CIIDU, a NGO dedicated to development issues and social communication. He did consultant work for international agencies such as the United Nations Development Program UNDP, the Inter-American Development Bank IADB and the World Bank. In 1991 he was appointed by the government as the Institutional Coordinator of the Social Investment Program PRIS of Uruguay. Then in 1992 the democratic government appointed him Director of the National State Television in Uruguay, a position he took up until the new government in 1995. From 1995 until 2002 he is the Director of Consultora Datos / Gallup International Association GIA Uruguay Chapter, a company specializing in market research and analysis of public opinion. Simultaneously with Consultora Datos, he worked from 1996 until 2006 in the panamerican weekly TIEMPOS DEL MUNDO, first working as the marketing manager in the local branch in Uruguay and then pass to serve as Manager for Hemispheric Special Publications based in Miami, United States. The weekly publication stops printing in 2006. Currently Bjørgan is the President of BJORGAN CONSULTANTS INC. and resides in Norway with his family. Victor Bjorgan is an active member of Amnesty International. Victor Bjørgan, also started with the blog “Bloggers of The Americas”[1] in April 2009 and aims to make contributions to the integration of the continent.
