"Virginia's career began as a Health Services Researcher at Oxford University. She was a founder Fellow of the King's Fund Institute and then moved into NHS management where her final post was Director of Modernisation for London. She moved to the British Red Cross as Director of UK Services.

"As Chief Executive of I CAN she campaigned for and then served on the Advisory Group of John Bercow's independent review of services for children with speech, language and communication needs (2007/8). She was instrumental in founding The Communication Trust, a coalition of almost 50 charities working with children with communication needs in 2007. She has been the Vice –Chair of ACEVO and is a Governor of the London School of Economics. Virginia was awarded a CBE in 2015 for services to children with special needs and disabilities."
