William Pace

"Since 1994 William Pace has served as Executive Director of the World Federalist Movement. Mr. Pace is a US citizen from the Rocky Mountain region of America. Raised in Wyoming and educated in Colorado, for many years Mr. Pace taught history and astronomy at the secondary school and college level respectively. He has been a life-long civil and human rights activist, environmentalist, peace-advocate, inner-city activist and opponent of unsustainable development.

"Mr. Pace has spent the last 17 years working at the international community level, after serving as director of Amnesty International. Mr. Pace became director of the London-based Environmental Investigation Agency; as executive director of the Center for Development of International Law in Washington DC and New York. Mr. Pace is co-founder of numerous non-governmental organization (NGO) networks and steering committees, including the NGO Steering Committee for the UN Commission on Sustainable Development, the Washington Coalition for Human Rights and the International NGO Task Group on Legal and Institutional Matters. In 1987, Mr. Pace served with Amnesty International in New York and London as a director of the "Human Rights Now!" campaign concert tour in support of the 40th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Featuring world-renowned musicians including Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Tracy Chapman, Youssou Nâ'Dour and Peter Gabriel, this five-continent tour covered more than 35,000 miles and 18 cities from London to Buenos Aires with over one million people in attendance.

"Since 1994, Mr. Pace has served as the Executive Director of the World Federalist Movement - Institute for Global Policy in New York. In 1999, Mr. Pace served as the Secretary-General for the Hague Appeal for Peace civil society conference, a monumental gathering for peace in the city of The Hague, Netherlands. In 2001, Mr. Pace was awarded the William J. Butler Human Rights Medal from the Urban Morgan Institute for Human Rights for being one of the "cardinal figures in the creation of a Permanent International Criminal Court." Mr. Pace served as the President of the Center for UN Reform Education from 2002-2004.

"Mr. Pace is author of numerous articles and reports on international affairs and UN issues, multilateral treaty processes, and NGO participation in international decision-making. His work has also been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The International Herald Tribune, The Times of India and Die Zeit. Mr. Pace is regularly interviewed by media organizations including CNN, The New York Times, the BBC, Le Monde, AFP, EFE, and the Reuters, UPI and AP wire services.
