World Business Summit on Climate Change

World Business Summit on Climate Change will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, May 24-26, 2009 at the Bella Center in preparation for COP15, the November 30 to December 11, 2009 UN Climate Change Conference which will also be held in Copenhagen.

"The World Business Summit on Climate Change has "active support from the Danish Government" [1] will be formally convened by the Copenhagen Climate Council in collaboration with United Nations Global Compact, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and the PEW Center on Global Climate Change. Top executives from global companies will be joined by leaders from civil society and governments. Participants will be decision-makers and influencers, including chief executives, heads of state, government ministers, leading thinkers, advocates, venture capitalists and entrepreneurs." [2]

According to its website, the World Business Summit on Climate Change will "bring together business leaders with the world's top scientists, economists, civil society, media leaders, politicians and other thought leaders to show how business can help solve the climate crisis through innovative business models, new partnerships and the development of low carbon technologY. The Summit will send a strong message to the 2009 UN Climate Change Conference (COP15) on how to remove barriers and create incentives for implementation of new solutions in a post-Kyoto framework." [3]

According to a May 13, 2008 joint press release from the convening organizations, "The Summit aims to ensure that a new global policy framework on climate change takes into account the needs of the business community and provides the right incentives for cutting carbon emissions," [4]
