Xolela Mangcu "is a nonresident fellow in Foreign Policy at Brookings and the executive chairman of the Platform for Public Deliberation at Wits University in Johannesburg, South Africa. He focuses on human rights and development issues, with a particular focus on South Africa." [1]

In 2004: "Dr Xolela Mangcu will be joining the HSRC from 1 November as Executive Director of the Social Cohesion and Integration Research Programme, the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC), announced yesterday.

"He will be taking over from Dr Wilmot James, who is leaving the HSRC to become Chair of the Immigration Advisory Board.

"Dr Mangcu was previously Director of the Steve Biko Foundation and Associate Editor of the Sunday Independent, and is a prominent public analyst and columnist. He has a PhD from Cornell University in the US, has held visiting fellowships at MIT, Harvard and the Rockefeller Foundation, and is WE du Bois non-resident Fellow at Harvard. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Fort Hare." [2]
