Brooks Brothers riot
"Brooks Brothers riot" or "Brooks Brothers mob" is the sarcastic designation for the incident in which a set of Republican congressional staffers converged on Miami-Dade County, Florida in the disputed November 2000 presidential election, posing as a random group of outraged citizens that had spontaneously assembled to prevent the court-ordered manual recount.[1] (Brooks Brothers is the oldest surviving clothier in the country, selling the conservative, upscale clothing favored by the staffers.)[2]
The recount was never restarted, despite an official margin for George Bush of only 537 votes. Votes already given to Al Gore as a result of the hand count were discarded.
