Mary Bottari is the director of the Center for Media and Democracy's new Real Economy Project . Previously she was, according to an official biography, "Director of Global Trade Watch's Harmonization Project," a project of Public Citizen. "The Harmonization Project investigates, documents and tracks the impact of global trade agreements on domestic regulatory activity at the federal, state and local level. Under the leadership of Ms. Bottari, the Harmonization Project has been instrumental in bringing trade and regulatory conflicts in the areas of public health, food safety and the environment to the attention of the public and media, and in encouraging citizen involvement in the process. Prior to coming to Global Trade Watch, Ms. Bottari had a long career in government service-most at the state and federal level, most recently as press secretary for U.S. Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI). She has an M.A. degree in social sciences from the University of Chicago and a B.A. in political sociology from Bryn Mawr College."  She is married to John Nichols.
