Republican Secretaries of State Committee

The Republican Secretaries of State Committee (RSSC) is a caucus of the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) working on elections and voting.[1] RSSC published a so-called "Election Integrity Best Practices" booklet in April 2021 in response to the "Big Lie" that widespread voter fraud occurred in the 2020 election.[2]

News and Controversies

Republican Secretaries of State Attend "Half-Day Briefing" with Heritage Foundation

On June 28, 2021, The Heritage Foundation held a "half-day briefing" on "redistricting, election security, and current election-related litigation and legislation" for Republican Secretaries of State, according to an invitation obtained by the Center for Media and Democracy through an open records request in the state of Missouri.[3]

The "briefing" was scheduled to "coincide" with republican secretaries of state semi-annual meeting of the Republican State Leadership Commission.

RSSC Chair Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill Steps Away From Group After Admitting Affair

After being named national chair of the RSSC in March, Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill quietly stepped away from the group after he admitted to having an affair.[4] Merrill's term ends in 2022 and was expected to run for U.S. Senate. Merrill was replaced by Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett
