Use of Video News Releases and/or Satellite Media Tours

In the 6pm news bulletin on November 23, 2005 the station partially incorporated an edited and revoiced segment from a video news release produced by D S Simon Productions for the Panasonic, Namco and Techno Source on high-tech gift ideas. The VNR was produced for Robin Raskin. [1]

The station was documented airing a video news release by the Center for Media and Democracy, in its November 2006 report "Still Not the News: Stations Overwhelmingly Fail to Disclose VNRs. [2]

Controversial advertising in support of war with Iraq

In September 2006, WSYX was one of the TV stations in Ohio that broadcast a controversial pro-war advertisement produced by Progress for America, whose graphic depiction of a bloody corpse prompted complaints from viewers.
